Experience the Ring of Breadalbane by Bus
It isn’t often you
come across great areas of natural beauty that are accessible by public
transport. Many parts of the Scottish Highlands are only accessible by car, or
after a long trek or cycle. However, in Perthshire we have the exception: You
can experience some of the most spectacular natural features of the Scottish
Highlands within the Ring of Breadalbane.
The Ring is a circular route that takes in the popular Perthshire
tourist locations of Crieff, Comrie, St Fillans, Lochearnhead, Killin, Kenmore
and Aberfeldy.
Your ticket to adventure
The Ring of
Breadalbane Explorer Bus is available from June to
September and provides a hop-on-hop-off bus service on Tuesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays. Sweeneys of Muthill operates a clockwise route starting
and finishing at Crieff, while Kingshouse Travel run an anti-clockwise circuit
centred on Killin. It must be one of the prettiest bus routes in the world!
You can experience the
landscape, the Scottish heritage, the culture and the fresh air of Perthshire,
deep in the Highlands of Scotland. En
route, you can visit the take Highland safaris, and even try the Famous Grouse Experience —after which, you might want to sit down in
case you fall down!
Hop-on, Hop-off
You can get on at any
stop and hop off anywhere, to stop and enjoy the sights, sounds and
experiences. Pass through the Killin area into Kenmore and then to Crannig, on
to the Watermill at Aberfeldy and then Dewar’s Whisky. Head down to Crieff and
then over to the Auchingarrich Wildlife Park before heading back full
circle—hence why they call it the ‘ring of Breadalbane’ and home to the final
stop.
Tickets are not too
expensive at around £9/£15 per day, depending on whether you get a one day
ticket or two day ticket. If you don’t
want to get a whole day ticket you can just pay as you go for what you ride. It
does work out cheaper to get the day ticket, however and you can benefit from
using it how and when you like, in case you decide to change your mind and hang
on a little longer.
Bring your bike along too
Not only can you ride
the bus but if you want, you can bring your bike, too. You can also choose to
cycle the circle instead of taking the bus, or take the bus for the first leg,
then cycle, then bus and so on. The choice really is yours and you are free to
do whatever you want up here! Its fresh clean air will bring new life to your
lungs and the smells of the welcoming countryside will make you feel completely
at home. The locals don’t bite, either, so do come up and visit us at the Murraypark Hotel for a time and see just how lovely it is!
